New Beginning

With the approach of summer comes the ever dreaded realization that you have yet to accomplish anything listed in your new year's resolution. For me, it was maintaining a healthier lifestyle which has proven to be a complicated routine to keep up with. This year has been a whirlwind of craziness. First, I didn't know what was going to happen at my job with all the changes going around: coworkers were leaving to move onto bigger and better things, new coworkers were coming in (and continue coming in) and the customer service department was looking for a new employee to take over the fulfillment aspect of my job. With all of this happening, rather slowly I might add, I continued my daily duties which were soon becoming stressful and mundane. Once we finally found a suitable candidate, I came to realize that my workload had significantly decreased and I no longer had enough motivation to wake up and go to work. Of course, my anxiety and depression (currently being treated) only co...

*The Adult Life

There are so many things that I want to say and write about. My mind is constantly racing with thoughts and ideas. Most of the time, I find myself imagining what my life would be like in a few months or years from now. I feel like things have not gone the way I would like them to so far. I had a rocky start at the beginning of the year and I've been dealing with all types of pressure, but I'm slowly getting through it all. Right now, my main goal is to find a job. I've been dealing with a  lot of regrets lately because I've had such a hard time finding jobs. I've applied to a few and so far, nothing. They all ask for some type of experience which I have very little of. I was actually getting pretty upset last month because I was frustrated. It's hard. I just got out of college and I feel like I didn't get the most out of it. I regret not looking for internships or job opportunities. I think for the most part I was in denial about leaving school and just grow...

Finding My Voice

It's been a while since I've updated this blog. My semester has been good so far. I like most of my classes. I have mixed feelings for one, but I'm really enjoying the reading. I only really have trouble keeping up with one class, but that's my fault since I spend most of my time on social networking sites and watching T.V. Mostly The Voice, but what can I say, I got hooked on that show last season. Anyways, I'm actually pretty worried about a few things coming up ahead. This is my last semester (hopefully, I need to pass my classes!) and I'm pretty nervous and excited about that. I have had so many people ask me what I'm going to do after I graduate and I have no real plan. I have no work experience and a degree won't really help me much. I need to gain some experience, but I don't know where I should start. Then there's the idea of going to graduate school. Obviously I'm not planning on going right away. I never really gave any thought to...

Embracing Uniqueness

This year has been quite a different one from what I'm used to. I've had to deal with things beyond my comprehension and I've learned things about myself along the way. One good thing that I've managed to gain from everything is that I've gotten a little more confident in my writing. I'm not at the place I would like to be, but I think I'm getting there. Part of my confidence stems from the professors that I've had. I've received a lot of feedback, both positive and constructive. I still can't consider myself a good writer because I think there's always room to develop and grow. Right now, I'm just trying to enjoy the summer break, but I think I should also use this time to come up with some ideas for a possible first novel. I have some ideas, but they're still not fully flushed out so I need to work on them some more. Writing a short story is more difficult than it seems, so a novel is going to take a lot of thought and a lot of draf...

New Semester

I haven't written a blog for a while. The reason was that I wanted to take a break from going online during my break. Since I'll be using my computer extensively now that I'm back in school, I decided to write a blog today. So far, my classes have been ok. It's too soon to judge based on the fact that I've only attended one lecture for each of my classes. I've only been introduced to what we'll be doing over the course of the semester so there's not a lot going on right now. I am a little anxious and concerned about the amount of work I'll be having. I hope I can keep up with it all because I have a tendency to procrastinate which I know isn't a good thing. I guess I've just gotten used to working under pressure which can be a good thing and a bad thing in some cases. Speaking of getting work done on time, I should probably start my homework due tomorrow lol. I might not be able to blog once a week, but I'll try to update whenever I get...

Reflections and Recommendations

I have noticed a pattern of me tending to post on Thursdays so I might make Thursdays the official blog day. I don't have a lot to say. It's been a long week, but I'm thankful that I get to take three days off this weekend and after that it'll be Thanksgiving. My school semester is almost over so I'm looking forward to that and relaxing over the holidays. I'm going to be getting pretty busy after Thanksgiving though since it'll be Finals week soon after that. But for now, I will try to make the most of my time off. I know my last blog was really negative, but to put a positive spin to this one, I decided that I would still watch the X Factor. I was glad to see Carly in her more natural element this week and was blown away by her performance last night. I was really impressed with Vino Alan as well. I think those are my two favorites at the moment. I would like to say that I enjoyed Jennel's performance, but I think the song was a bad choice. I really a...

Why I Chose English

I am in the midst of trying to get through what feels like an endless pile of homework. Two books to catch up on, writing that needs revision and short stories to edit for my fellow classmates. It's difficult being a college student, but I'm sure the reward at the end of it all is worth it. The reason I feel compelled to write a blog is so that I can work on my writing style. I also hope that this gives me room for improvement since I am currently studying English in the hopes of becoming a better writer. When I tell people that I'm majoring in English, the response is always the same. "Oh, are you going to be a teacher?" they say. It never fails. "No," I reply. "I want to be a writer. I want to write novels." I'm not trying to chastise teachers, but I don't feel that being a teacher is my calling. I also wish that people wouldn't automatically associate English with teaching. I love learning it and am fascinated by my professors ...
